Jared brings a perspective to the practice of law shaped by experiences both inside and outside the legal system. Growing up in a household affected by financial insecurity, health challenges, and addiction shaped who he is and how he relates to people facing difficult circumstances. Jared has also personally experienced what it means to face prosecution by the government. Those experiences sit at the heart of People 1st Law—and they are a major part of why he does this work.

Jared’s path to becoming an attorney was not a conventional one. Before entering the legal profession, he developed experience in sales, business development, finance, real estate investment, the military, and organizational leadership. Those experiences gave him a practical perspective on people, business, risk, and problem-solving that continues to influence the way he approaches his clients and their cases.

Jared has worked to develop his practice with the support of the Colorado Office of Attorney Professional Excellence (APEX) and Colorado’s legal community. His work has also been recognized with Avvo’s 2025 Client’s Choice Award and Metro Volunteer Lawyers’ 2025 Top Referral Award.

More important to Jared than any award, however, are the results he has been able to achieve for his clients. He has helped a client recover more than $250,000 in a post-decree enforcement matter, obtained a not-guilty verdict at trial, secured dismissals through both motion practice and negotiation, and helped parents move from having no parenting time to a structured path toward equal parenting time.

His practice has also included favorable resolutions involving child support, spousal maintenance, protection orders, and negotiated settlements.

Jared likes to be the best at whatever he chooses to do, and the practice of law is no different. He believes clients deserve an attorney who is prepared, candid, and willing to put in the work necessary to give them the strongest position possible. Above all else, Jared is committed to serving his clients to the best of his ability and treating each case with the seriousness it deserves.

That commitment to discipline extends beyond the practice of law. Jared believes physical fitness is every bit as important to sustained performance as intellectual preparation. A strong mind and a strong body reinforce one another, and strength training and fitness remain an important part of his daily life.

Outside of the office, Jared enjoys traveling with his wife, snowboarding, camping, hiking, fishing, and spending time outdoors throughout Colorado. Together, Jared and his wife have traveled to more than 15 countries and continue to make travel and experiencing new places an important part of their lives. Above all, Jared values showing up for his family and making time for the people closest to him.

Madison brings a perspective to the practice of law shaped by experience on both sides of the criminal justice system. Before entering private practice, she served as a criminal prosecutor, where she gained firsthand experience evaluating evidence, negotiating cases, winning trials, and touching thousands of cases.

Her background also extends well beyond the courtroom. Before becoming an attorney, Madison earned an undergraduate degree in psychology and worked in real estate. Those experiences shaped the way she approaches people, conflict, negotiation, and decision-making.

During law school, she also worked with the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office.

Madison believes clients deserve an attorney who is prepared, thoughtful, and willing to look closely at the details of a case rather than simply accepting the first explanation presented. She places a high value on preparation, careful legal analysis, clear communication, and helping clients understand both the strengths and weaknesses of their position.

Above all else, Madison is committed to serving clients with professionalism and empathy. Her background in psychology, prosecution, real estate, and public service gives her a broad perspective on the legal, financial, and personal pressures that often accompany litigation.

Madison is also an integral part of the way People 1st Law approaches difficult legal problems. She is always willing to offer a different perspective, challenge an assumption, or thoroughly talk through a complicated issue. 

Jared is the first to say that without Madison, he would have reached only a fraction of his potential. Their different backgrounds and ways of thinking often complement one another—and when a difficult issue calls for it, clients benefit from having two legal minds working through the problem instead of one.

Outside of the practice of law, Madison is the driving force behind much of the travel and adventure in the Nickerson household. She loves exploring new places, experiencing different cultures, and getting outside whenever possible. Together, Madison and Jared have traveled to more than 15 countries, and travel continues to be one of the most important parts of their life together.
